Federal criminal cases in Virginia and Washington D.C. are suspending all jury trials until February and March, respectively.

On January 8, 2021, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) temporarily suspended through February 28, 2021, all criminal jury trials, grand jury proceedings, and all in-person misdemeanor, traffic, and petty offense dockets.  The United States District Court for the District of Columbia has postponed all jury trials until after March 15, 2021.

While D.C. Courts are proceeding with other criminal matters, it is important to discuss an attorney to make sure that you are up to date with your court dates.

If you have a federal criminal case pending in EDVA or D.C. Federal Court, talk to a criminal defense attorney about what this order means for your case.  For example, a defendant who was denied bond while awaiting trial and who has now had their trial date postponed, may be able to get a new bond hearing.
